UNESCO, in partnership with the Government of Uzbekistan, has launched the inaugural Beruniy Prize, an international award recognizing excellence in AI ethics research.
The prize aims to support initiatives that promote human-centered innovation, transparency, and responsible development. By encouraging collaboration across regions — particularly between the Global South and Global North — the prize underscores the importance of ethical scholarship in shaping the future of AI.
UNESCO officials emphasize that the award highlights the need for research that places humanity at the heart of technological progress.
